Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a concussion last?
The duration of a concussion varies from person to person, but most individuals recover within 7 to 14 days. Children and adolescents often take longer, sometimes several weeks, due to ongoing brain development. Recovery time depends on injury severity, prior concussions, and how well activity is managed after injury.
Symptoms do not always resolve all at once. Physical symptoms may improve first, followed by cognitive or emotional symptoms. It is common for people to feel better and then experience a temporary setback if they increase activity too quickly.
A longer recovery does not mean permanent damage. With appropriate management, gradual activity progression, and medical support, most people eventually return to their normal level of functioning.
