Frequently Asked Questions

Can adults recover faster than children?

Recovery from concussion varies individually, but adults often experience shorter recovery periods than children. This may be due to the mature brain’s ability to compensate for temporary functional disruptions more efficiently. However, age, overall health, and previous injuries also influence recovery speed.

Children, particularly under the age of 12, often take longer to recover and may experience cognitive or behavioral changes for weeks or even months. Their brains are still developing, so injury can temporarily disrupt critical learning and social-emotional processes.

Both adults and children benefit from careful monitoring, rest, and gradual return to physical and cognitive activities. Tailoring recovery plans to the individual, taking into account age, activity level, and symptom severity, ensures the best outcomes and reduces the risk of prolonged or recurrent issues.
