Frequently Asked Questions
What is a neurocognitive test?
Neurocognitive testing evaluates brain functions such as memory, attention, reaction time, and processing speed. These tests can be computerized or paper-based and are often used in sports medicine, schools, and concussion clinics.
Baseline testing, when available, allows comparison between pre-injury and post-injury performance. This helps clinicians assess the impact of the concussion and monitor recovery more objectively. However, baseline tests are not required for diagnosis.
Neurocognitive tests are one tool among many and should not be used alone to determine recovery or return to play. Clinical judgment and symptom resolution remain central to decision-making.
