Frequently Asked Questions

What is a concussion assessment tool?

Concussion assessment tools are standardized evaluations used to identify and monitor concussion symptoms. Common examples include the SCAT5 and Child SCAT5, which assess symptoms, cognition, balance, and coordination.

These tools are especially useful in sports and sideline settings, helping clinicians and trainers make immediate decisions about removal from play. They also provide a structured way to track symptoms over time.

While helpful, assessment tools are not diagnostic on their own. They support—but do not replace—clinical evaluation and professional medical judgment.
