Frequently Asked Questions
Can you sleep after a concussion?
Yes, sleep is generally safe and beneficial after a concussion. Rest supports brain recovery and helps regulate healing processes. Waking someone repeatedly during the night is usually unnecessary unless instructed by a healthcare provider.
However, warning signs such as difficulty waking, worsening headache, repeated vomiting, or confusion should prompt immediate medical attention. These may indicate a more serious injury.
Good sleep hygiene—consistent bedtime, reduced screen use, and a calm environment—can help recovery. Persistent sleep problems should be addressed, as poor sleep can prolong other concussion symptoms.
