Frequently Asked Questions

Can concussions cause seizures?

Seizures are uncommon after mild concussions but can occur, especially with more severe TBIs. When seizures happen shortly after injury, they are called early post-traumatic seizures and require medical evaluation.

The risk of seizures increases with brain bleeding, skull fractures, or penetrating injuries. Most individuals with uncomplicated concussions do not develop long-term seizure disorders.

Any seizure after a head injury is considered a medical emergency. Prompt assessment helps determine injury severity and guides further monitoring or treatment if needed.
